Regina has a radon problem
In Health Canada's cross-Canada survey, 25.5% of tested homes in the Regina Qu'Appelle health region were over the radon guideline of 200 Bq/m³. The national figure was 6.9%. Source: Health Canada.
Radon is a gas that comes up from the ground. You can't see it or smell it. Health Canada calls it the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. The only way to know your level is to test.
What we do
- Radon testing: long-term tests over at least 3 months, best done in fall or winter.
- Radon mitigation: sub-slab depressurization. A fan pulls radon from under your basement floor and vents it outside.
- Re-testing after install, so you know the system works.
What it costs
Most Regina homes land between $2,500 and $4,000. Price depends on whether your house has a radon rough-in, your foundation type and the size of the home. See the cost breakdown.
How fast should you fix it?
| Your long-term test result | Health Canada recommends |
|---|---|
| Under 200 Bq/m³ | No action needed. Re-test after major renovations. |
| 200 to 600 Bq/m³ | Fix within 2 years |
| Over 600 Bq/m³ | Fix within 1 year |
