Use a long-term test
Health Canada recommends a test of at least 3 months, ideally in fall or winter when windows are closed and radon levels tend to be highest. Short tests of a few days can swing a lot and aren't reliable for deciding on a fix.
Where to put it
Place the detector in the lowest level where someone spends at least 4 hours a day, like a basement bedroom, family room or office. Keep it away from drafts, sumps and exterior walls.
What your number means
Health Canada's guideline is 200 Bq/m³. Over 200, fix it within 2 years. Over 600, fix it within 1 year.
